13.??

After I ran the Ragnar race in November, I decided that I kind of like having a workout schedule to follow. So, I decided to train for a half marathon. I looked up a training schedule on the internet and added it to my calendar.

I realized a few weeks ago that the last week of training was going to be during spring break, and I didn't like that because we are going to be in Utah on vacation that week. So, I eliminated week 11 and decided to run the 13.1 miles on March 17th. Yesterday I planned to do the 11 mile run, but once I got started, I felt pretty good and it was such a beautiful day, I figured I would run the 13.1 miles and move on with my life - turn in my homework early, so to speak.

I ran down College Ave., up through ASU, over Tempe Town Lake bridge, through Papago Park by the Zoo, east on McDowell, south on 68th street until I hit 7 miles, and then back the same way.

I've had an issue with my Apple watch lately. Sometimes it will randomly turn off and it takes up to 30 minutes to turn on again properly. I discovered a few weeks ago that it correlates with texting. For some reason, when someone texts me, and it shows up on my watch, if I look at the text, the watch will then turn off. Weird, I know. Anyway, that's what happened yesterday. I can't tell you the level of disappointment I felt when my watch suddenly turned off at 12.27 miles. I was REALLY wanting to see it say 13.1, haha. Luckily, I had just looked at how far I had run, so I had a pretty good idea how much farther I needed to go to get to 13.1. So, I started the Nike app on my phone and finished the run.

I ran until it said 1 mile. I wanted to make sure I did the full 13.1. Needless to say, it was a rather anticlimactic ending to a lot of training. In the end, I was pretty proud of myself. I didn't do too bad for a 50-year-old lady. It's not the fastest I've ever run, but it was consistent. It's harder to keep a steady pace when you have to stop at lights. Also, it's easier to pick up the pace when you feel the energy of other runners during a real race.

I clicked a few pics during the run.

This pic was actually from a couple of days prior. The colors popping up around the city are delightful.

Quinn is officially on spring break for a couple of weeks. It will be a much needed break from the routine for all of us. We are trying to get a lot of driving in before her birthday next month. The other day when we were out driving, the sun was setting during a rain storm. The sky looked so cool.

Q and I couldn't quit laughing about this dog checking us out.

Here's another one of Q's art projects.

In math class, Q was able to memorize the most digits of pi on pi day.
She recited 50 digits in front of the class!
pi = 3.1415926535 8979323846 2643383279 5028841971 6939937510

Dad has started making bagels.
They are delish!

New washer, who dis?

Grammy and I finally got sick of trying to make the washer work.
So we replaced it.
We are both hoping the new one works better than the last one.
In the meantime, Q and I spent one Friday night at the laundromat.
Q hadn't been to a laundromat before.
She seemed impressed but also thankful we don't have to drag our laundry there all the time.
Luckily, she had a fun game on her iPad that kept us entertained.
Papa lucked out by being on his mission trip in the Dominican Republic,
and he didn't have to help out with the laundry.

I love all the art Q is making at school.

She was working on this mask late last night.
Today is the last day she can turn in assignments for the grading period.
Spring break starts for her on Friday.

I found these wrappers next to the mask.
Just a little fuel to keep her going.

Finishing up this morning.

Q and her friend Jarah last Sunday.

Q brought this to me the other night. So cool!

Wild flowers are blooming all over Tempe right now.
I love them!

This little lady spent two days last week taking the bar exam for West Virginia.
I'm so proud of her hard work, grit, resilience, and determination!
