Memories of Grandpa

Eric's Christmas gift to Grammy this year was a video of the grandkids sharing memories of Grandpa.

She loved it!

End of the Semester

Most of us are out of school for winter break. Mia finished up first. I asked her how everything turned out, and she said, "OK." She did not elaborate.

Quinn finished up last week. She had a rather stressful end to her Spanish II semester. Right as the final was starting, she pulled out a piece of paper and jotted down some notes. Her teacher walked by a little bit later and took the paper off of her desk, assuming she was cheating. Later that day, Q checked her grades to find out that the teacher had given her a zero on the exam. Understandably, this caused a mild freakout on Quinny's end. It put her grade at a 69.9% (D). She emailed her teacher twice explaining what had happened. No response. The next day, after her other finals, she went to her Spanish teacher's room to talk with her, and to see what she could do about fixing her grade. She teacher said something about needing to talk to other teachers to see what she can do. In the end, she changed the grade on her final, still docking her points, but bringing her semester grade to a B. Whew, what a relief.

In a strange and (I think) unrelated turn of events, later that day we got an email saying that Q was going to be switched to different Spanish class next semester. Several of the students in the class are being switched. They said they are "making this change to improve the learning experience for [the] students." Interesting.

Eric is finishing up this week. He sent these pics of his notecards for one of his exams.

Yikes! That might as well be written in Chinese. His hard work paid off. He received one of the top grades in the class.

Eric's coming for a visit on Friday. It should be a nice, relaxing time - no work and no school!!

Fun fact: Quinn and I were in the bathroom talking the other day and she said, "Am I taller than you?" We immediately went into the other room, got a measuring tape, and started comparing our heights. After a couple of botched tries (we were using a tissue box on our heads against the wall to make the marks - bad idea - the tissue box bends in the middle), we found out that we are exactly the same height - 5' 6 3/4" tall. We both just say 5' 7", because who says 5' 6 3/4"?

Happy Holidays 2023

Birthday and Soccer

Grammy turned 86 on the 4th. We had two celebrations for her. One on Sunday night with our family and one on Monday with her sisters and more of the extended family. She looks amazing!
Quinn's team participated in a soccer tournament over the weekend. They won three out of four games. We didn't see their first game on Friday, which is the one they lost. I'm sure if we had been there, they would have won. ;) My brain must be malfunctioning. I didn't get any pictures of her playing. Here are a couple of her team. She's number 4. Her doppelgänger, Bella, is number 11. They look so much alike out on the field that I mix them up a lot. There were several girls missing over the weekend, so the girls who did participate in the tournament got a lot of playing time.

Quinn

Quinn finished up her dive season. It was so fun watching her dive. I wish I could have been to all of her meets. My work schedule interfered with her meets several times. They had a banquet at the end of the season.

We hiked the Wind Cave Trail at Usery Park yesterday. Except for me falling (again!), we had a great time. The weather is perfect right now.

Eric, Robyn, Devin, and Dax visit

It was so great having our out-of-towners visit this past month. Eric was here for a week and was able to spend Thanksgiving with us. We have such a great time with him, and he always makes us laugh. Luckily, Eric's visit overlapped with the Francillon's for a couple of days. We weren't able to coordinate a picture at the house, so we all got on our matching pjs (thanks to Robyn) and headed over the hospital where Robert was on call. While the Francillons were here, we went to the Odysea aquarium and the zoo, played at the house, took naps, visited, made puzzles, played pickle ball, and just enjoyed each other's company.
